How to: Scam Cashiers and make them give you extra change

How to: Scam cashiers and trick them in to giving you more change than you deserve

Okay now hear me out on this one, it may seem a little confusing at first but it is very very simple! The confusion is what makes it work, without it the cashier would easily be able to spot what you are trying to do.

Now the proper term for this is known as change raising which increases the amount of change that you are meant to get in return - do not confuse this with what is commonly known as short change.

Usually this can be performed on most cashiers especially those young teenage girls working as cashiers for their summer job with roughly a 90% success rate. Basically because of two reasons, they don't care about the job very much and secondly because they are inexperienced.

  1. Prepare a $20 note, and another bunch of small notes adding up to $20 so that you have $40 in total in your wallet. Also make sure you have a few extra dollars in case you need it.
  2. Walk in to the shop and casually buy an item that costs roughly $1 and use your $20 note to buy it, apologise for not having smaller change if you get a dirty look from the cashier.
  3. When you receive your change($19), pretend that you found a dollar coin at the bottom of your pocket and ask for your $20 note back and say that you would rather pay for the item with the dollar coin because you don't want so much change.
  4. The cashier will take the $20 note back out of the register and wait for you to hand back the original change($19) plus an extra dollar making it $20.
  5. Now the tricky part is making it appear that you haven't tampered with the $19 worth of change she gave you but really you removed a dollar(from the stack of $19 in change making it only $18) and then clearly add the $1 so she thinks what you are about to give her is the $19 plus $1.
  6. Now hand over what she thinks is $20 and take back your $20 note - At the same time.
  7. Now just quickly pocket the $20 note. She should count it and realise that you didn't give her $20 but instead only $19, if she doesn't count it ask her to make sure that you have given her the right amount.
  8. When she realises that you only gave her $19, apologise and say "Hang on just let me give you another $5... making it $24.. and another ... *whatever you choose*... " until it adds up to $40 and ask her to just give you a $40 note instead.
  9. When she hands over the $40 note just thank her politely and walk out.

If you perform this correctly, you would have just walked away with an extra $20.

I know this sounds more confusing than rocket science at the moment but read over it a few times and you'll get it. The trick is that when you gave her $19 and you were meant to give her another $1, you gave her $5 making it $24 and as you kept adding more money her concentrating was shifted on to the counting arithmetic as you were adding the notes up to $40 and she forgets that $20 was meant to be hers out of that $40 in the first place.

This video demonstrates a slight variation of the change raise scam described above

    5. since when is ripping people off smart? Stop trying to justify your actions with bull****. I'm a cashier and I've seen people come in and find someone who is new to the job just so they can try to manipulate them into getting free stuff, cheaper stuff, ect. Yes it is partly the cashiers fault for being naive but they are the ones who get in trouble for it, not the people who actually need to be punished for being a piece of sh** for doing stuff like this. Buy your stuff and get out, if you don't have the money, don't buy stuff. People need the money just as much as you do there's no reason for you to scam people and rip them off.

    1. This just happened to me the other day & it doesn't mean your stupid, especially if your inexperienced & havent heard about how scamming works.it seems they chose certain victims to pry on. I had a bad feeling, but by him constantly saying to count the money & make sure it was right, it threw me off. Im not stressing though, you live & you learn. Karma is a b*tch!

    2. Yes to the mother fucked saying there kid deserved that he will get caught one day, and for any cashiers out there to prevent this never hand over the bill that they are asking to buy back if you do never give it to them first always get the money first and count it then once you have the correct amount in your hand then give them the 20 back or whatever bill they want and then stop at that and if they want more change tell them they will have to talk to manager , and if you ever think someone is trying to short change you contact the local police and see what vehicle they are in and try to get there tag number . The easiest way to prevent this is just tell them you can't open your drawer back or and then let your manager know immediately because someone wanting too make change with big bills is 9 times out of 10 are trying to scam you hope this helps anyone out there have a great day from the kentucky state police

    3. You should be arrested for incriminating a police officer. No trooper would incorrectly write paragraphs like this. We write multiple reports daily you idiot. Get a life you fucktard

  6. Easiest way to defeat any kind of scam:

Do everything one at a time, no exceptions. If a customer wants any sort of change, finish handing over any change before breaking new bills or combining, no matter the amount.

For example, often times, when I give coins that total up to an amount such as 85 cents, sometimes customers give me a quarter to make another dollar bill.

What I do is I tell them to wait, take out 85 cents from my drawer, and only then do I start doing the arithmetic to combine them.

    1. What you keep trying to say is called "Impersonating" a police officer. You shouldn't call someone an idiot, and get on them about their grammar if you're worse than they are.

    2. I was waiting for someone to call him out, lol! Bet he doesn't feel so smart now, talking about 'Incriminating'.

  10. This is a crime. It's called stealing and I wish a DUMBASS would come through my line with this bullshit. Oh wait, they have, and went to jail. So if you want to do the CRIME, then prepare to be arrested and fined for being lying thief. This is a pathetic cowardly way to make a little money.

  11. Be honest and remember that the cashier will pay for any money he or she gets scammed on.

  12. This happened to me a cashier a month ago and now the suspect is going to court with my statement. Keep in mind that most places have cameras and not all cashiers are as ignorant as they look

  13. Ok, this is kinda a stupid way to do it.walk into the store with 2 $5 bills and 1 $10 bill, and 20 $1 bills, walk up to the register and hand her 19 of the $1 bills, and ask for 1 $20 bill, pocket that $20 bill. She will say there is only $19 instead of $20, say oops, and hand her 1 $1 bill 2 $5 bills and a $10 bill and say actually can I get 2 $20 bills instead.therby making $20.i have not done this but I am sure it would work however (don't attempt this)
